Vasilis Grivas

Vasilis Grivas is a visual artist.

He has illustrated over 100 books and covers for children and adults, with two solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He has also written and illustrated his own stories.

In 2022, he won first prize for his poster, “Nanny – Queen of the Maroons.” He took 1st place among 1,180 entries from 53 countries in the 8th International Reggae Poster Contest. His work was exhibited at the National Gallery of Jamaica in his presence, following an invitation from the Jamaican Ministry of Culture. The “Nanny of the Maroons” poster is permanently displayed at the digital Museum, and soon at the physical Jamaican Museum & Cultural Center (JMCC Atlanta).

In 2022, Grivas demonstrated his versatility by creating prints on linen exclusively for the “Dassios S/S 22” campaign. In 2024, he participated in the “S/S 24” campaign, making a significant entrance into the fashion world.

In 2024, upon invitation from the Sharjah Book Authority in the United Arab Emirates to collaborate with Greek and Arab artists, he participated in a four-day artistic workshop at their facilities in the Emirate of Sharjah. There, he illustrated concepts from the philosophy of both countries, resulting in a book (in Greek and Arabic) entitled “Philosophies: Visual Simulation.”

The book was presented at the 20th Thessaloniki International Book Fair (TIBF), where Sharjah participated for the first time as the honored guest from the Arab world. A visual exhibition with illustrations by Greek and Emirati artists was also showcased.

As part of the collaboration between the national sections of IBBY, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates, he participated in the exhibition “Folktales Reimagined.”

In 2023, he was shortlisted for the awards of the Greek section of IBBY – the Circle of Greek Children’s Book, for the award of illustrator.

He is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
